The award-winning, organic wine producers at Forty Hall Vineyard and their partners Capel Manor College, are celebrating the launch of their 2015 Vintage London Sparkling Brut.  It is the first time that this unique social enterprise in North London has had their sparkling wine widely available to the public.

There are high expectations for this 2015 Vintage following a big win at the Soil Association’s Best of Organic Market (BOOM) over the summer, where their 2014 Vintage sparkling wine received the award for Best Organic Wine.   This release marks a fresh milestone in the extraordinary success of English and Welsh sparkling wines, which now regularly win gold medals in international blind tastings.

London Sparkling Brut is made in the traditional method from the three classic champagne grapes: Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay.  The wine is suitable for vegans and vegetarians.  Forty Hall Vineyard is committed to producing sustainable, organic wines of exceptional quality from London-grown grapes harvested entirely from their 10-acre vineyard.  Forty Hall Vineyard is partnered with Capel Manor College, which has supported the project from its inception, as well as providing the land for the vineyard at Forty Hall Farm.  The vineyard works with multi-award-winning wine maker, Will Davenport, who shares their commitment to natural, artisan and sustainable wine production.

“The terroir of our London vineyard is unique,” says Marissa Zoppellini, Chair of the Board. “We have a south facing position on a small, elevated area of free-draining, gravelly soil surrounded by London clay and we have a particularly temperate climate which we attribute to our proximity to London.  Our 14,500 vines are hand-tended by a team of dedicated local volunteers.  We believe these unique characteristics are reflected in the quality of our product.”

Project Manager, Sarah Vaughan-Roberts, describes the 2015 Sparkling Brut as: “a fresh, clean and zesty wine, with satisfying acidity and long, dry finish. It is perfect for Christmas drinking, but it will also develop well with ageing. Our 2015 harvest was excellent and this vintage is available in much greater volume than previous years allowing it to be sold to the public for the first time”.

Aside from producing delicious, quality wines, Forty Hall Vineyard is also an award-winning, mental health and wellbeing project which supports local people by engaging them in active, outdoor volunteering – a chance to socialise with others and to benefit from fresh air and physical exercise in a beautiful, natural setting.

The 2015 Vintage London Sparkling Brut is available to buy online at www.fortyhallvineyard.com or from the “cellar door” at the Forty Hall Farm shop (open Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays from 11am to 4pm).
