The word refugee stirs up many emotions. What is often overlooked is that a significant number of people granted refugee status in the UK (which carries full employment rights) are experienced and qualified Engineers, Architects and Business Services professionals. For a number of reasons, the majority of refugees struggle to find work relevant to their skills. At a time when the UK is experiencing a shortage of such skills this seems to be inexplicable.

Organisations like Arcadis have recognised the opportunities that working with experienced professionals can bring. They have developed with Transitions a 6- month traineeship programme, so far for 16 refugee engineering professionals.

Transitions is a not for profit body that supports refugee Engineering and Business Services professionals in London. This meeting showcases the approach, and discusses barriers and strategies so that we can assist more organisations to engage with jobseeking refugee Engineers, Architects and business services professionals.
